About Victoria Falls

The Victoria Falls on the Mighty Zambezi River isn’t dubbed one of the seven natural wonders of the world for nothing. The 108 meter drop creates a spectacle like no other, and is affectionately known as Mosi-oa-Tunya or the Smoke That Thunders. The spray produced by the magnificent feature of earth can be seen from miles away, and with height and width taken into account; it’s the biggest waterfall in the world. Rivaled only by the Iguazu Falls of South America, the Victoria Falls has the biggest sheet of falling water in the world. victoria falls side views

Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Victoria Falls has a host of activities that keep young and old entertained. The African Landscape has long been known for its mystery and beauty, and the area surrounding the Victoria Falls offers the best value for money experience on the continent, with a National Park, a Natural Wonder, Game Drives and Adventure all in a 50 kilometer radius.

The Mosi-oa-Tunya National park on the Zambian side offers a good game viewing experience, with a good population of game. The Victoria Falls National Park on the Zimbabwean side offers the same experience, although a bit smaller. The parks have Elephants, Rhino, Buffalo, Antelope, Crocodiles and Hippo’s. Along with this there is great birdlife to astonish hardened bird watchers. About 450 species has been sighted and with the ecosystem around the falls, there is a wonderful selection of wildlife. The Spray from the falls has promoted the growth of a rainforest in the surrounding area that supports plant life that can’t be found anywhere else in Zambia or Zimbabwe.

Activites

The list of activities goes on and on and there’s something for everyone. Besides for the breath taking views you can, in no particular order, bungee jump from the bridge, abseil, canoe, white river rafting on the Mighty Zambezi,  swimming in the Devils Pool (current permitting), catch Tiger fish, ride on elephants, walk with lions, take a hot air balloon trip, skydive, and more. You’ll have to plan properly if you want to make the most of your stay in the Victoria Falls.

All the above mentioned activities can be arranged and even day excursions to a nearby cultural village can be very rewarding. The nearby crocodile park will give you a chance to observe these feared creatures. Walking with lions, as intimidating as it sounds, is a great way to get close to these powerful cats. Then there is always riding on elephants, a great way to get close to these wise and mythical animals.

The adventurous type will have found their mecca, as the dull moments are only found in the hotel lobby. Imagine bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, a thrilling 111 meters will have you screaming all the way down. Abseiling from the Batoka Gorge and the “flying Box” is some of the most exhilarating things that you can do in the area. White River rafting is a must as the splash of the Zambezi and African sun is what tales of adventure are made of!
